Frequently Asked Questions
- Why is our office named Boojum Obstetrics & Gynecology?
- The
first time Dr. Kells laid his eyes on a Boojum tree, he fell in love.
He likes the character that each tree displays and that it
flourishes in the harsh desert environment. The Boojum tree (pictured on the left) is
native to the deserts of Baja, California and Sonora, Mexico. It
can be found locally at the Desert Botanical Garden and the Boyce
Thompson Arboretum. It resembles a giant upside down turnip, with
a tall tapering trunk, green-white bark, and short thin horizontal
branches. The wood is soft and spongy and retains water It
is often hollow and provides a home for honeybees. The tree is
leafless during much of the year but leaves appear when the temperature
cools down. It also has orange-red flowers that blossom which
look similar to its cousin the ocotillo. It can attain heights of
66 feet but will bend gracefully as it cannot support itself.

- Which insurance providers do we accept?
- Boojum OB/GYN accepts many insurance plans including fee
for service, standard indemnity, HMO's, and preferred provider
organizations. Most insurance plans no longer require a referral
to see if you have specific questions or needs. Please let us
know if your insurance has changed. Payment plans can be arranged
individually when needed. If you are unsure, you can simply call
your insurance company's customer service number and ask them if
they cover Dr. David Kells.
- At which hospitals do we deliver?
- We currently can perform deliveries at Chandler Regional Hospital and Mercy Gilbert Hospital.
- Are we accepting new patients?
- YES!! We have recently added new staff to better suite your needs. In most cases same week appointments are available.
- What methods of payment do we accept?
- We accept cash, check, Visa and MasterCard.
- Any questions regarding exposures during pregnancy?
- www.otispregnancy.org has various fact sheets that are a great resource for this kind of information. OTIS is a nonprofit
organization established in response to the growing need for scientific
information about the effects of drugs and environmental agents on the
developing human embryo and fetus.
